Whoever's managing DC wants to rake in the profits, without doing the leg work. People really praise Iron Man, but it was a pretty mediocre film, the only thing really good about it was Downey's performance. But it was not terrible, and it got a sequel and they developed the franchise. The higher ups at DC just don't seem to be interested in that.

    1. "Shang" is correctly pronounced with a silent g as Chinese syllables are very different from Western ones and do not have a pronounciated equivalent to our g letter. Good on you for that one, Grace. 2. In the comics after Shang-Chi leaves his father, he essentially does become a secret agent so the James Bond like touches are very appropriate. 3. If that is Shang-Chi's sister fighting him in the cage, they eventually become allies and she too leaves their father to pursue her own life in the comics. 4. The absolute best Shang-Chi story I ever read in the comics was a 2 part Marvel Tram-Up in which Spider-Man, Black Widow, Shang-Chi and Nick Fury battle the Viper and the Silver Samurai on board a hijacked SHIELD helicarrier they plan to use to decimate populated cities with. This may seem tame nowadays but at the time was heady study to see a superhero comic dealing with the real world issue of terrorism albeit in a comic book way, of course. The story had some palpable stakes and aside from Spider-Man and Silver Samurai, nobody had any super powers so it was very much as grounded an action thriller as you could get in a superhero comic book. It also introduced Shang-Chi proper to the Marvel universe at large and put him on the same level as all its other superheroes. It also clearly indicated that Shang-Chi could best any other Marvel superhero in hand to hand including those with long combat experience and training as well such as Fury, Widow, Cap, Daredevil, Punisher, Iron Fist, Spidey and Wolverine. All without a single superpower.

It’s about time that Marvel atones for the mistake they made with the Mandarin in Ironman. Marvel usually misses the mark when it comes to villains let’s hope we get villains that are as powerful and interesting as their hero counterparts.

I think if there is chance of any old Iron Man villain showing up in Armor Wars, it's Justin Hammer, Justin Hammer had a big part of OG Armor Wars comic series, plus I always love me some Sam Rockwell, Hammer after Stark's death wants to be leading man in MCU Universe's arms weaponry race now, I wouldn't be against Mandarin showing up as the pulling the strings bts, Ten Rings organisation in all their history in MCU did multiple tries to get their hands on MCU tech, so it wouldn't be an out of box idea and will make somewhat sense in MCU narrative...

  • DuppyCat

I see your MCU vs DC movies theory Grace, but Marvel can do whatever they want. Especially when Shang Chi was decades before Damian Wayne etc. Would have been great if you tied in the Sax Rohmer heritage. And no Leiko Wu?

Hey Grace!! Still missing your mornings here in New Haven, CT. @6:35 those arm rings are an actual style called Hung Gar Iron Rings, Yau Kung Mun 柔功門 and sometimes referred to as Southern Rings used for strength conditioning of the arms/fists and for forms conditioning. I'm glad they replaced the finger rings with the arm rings. It separates from the Infinity Gauntlet and adds even more flavor to the culture of the movie. @15:05 I can't wait to see the Foo Dogs/Guardian Lions in action! This is going to be epic!!!

So get this grace. The "Talia character" xialing is the mandarin or the "ras al'ghoul characters" daughter... unbelievable right? I feel so bad for DC. Apparently Marvels MCU having a HUGE fanbase and the biggest most lucrative franchise of all time, just isn't enough for them and even though they have decades of great storys to adapt. They keep blatantly ripping off some of DC's greatest story's. I enjoy marvel but DC was my first love lol so this makes me very salty. It honestly feels kinda shady.

Loving this trailer! I think the bus fight scenes were a little too computery/cgi for me (the yanking the woman back into the bus part was obvious),but I'm excited to see where the story goes. I just noticed that in that scene Awkwafina is asking him who he is as though she doesn't know him, but in an earlier scene she was working with him . Does she just get a valet job with him that quickly or am I missing a timeline in their friendship? Unless that valet scene was some undercover operation... but now I'm not so sure.

It reminds me of Doctor Strange, or Antman: I don't know, and I don't care.. until I see it. (And Guardians, too.) I didn't see either of them in the cinema, and back then I didn't know they were part of the shared universe.. (I saw Guardians 2 and Antman 2 in the cinema. Actually, the first MCU I saw in cinema was Cap America Civil War. I think Antman was maybe after Civil War? Or was it Doc Strange? Can't remember..) So, now that I know it's MCU, I'll see it sooner. (Maybe not in the cinema because of the pandemics, which is not going away so soon in Brazil.) But the feeling is still a little like "I don't know the character, so I don't care". The most interesting way (to me) of introducing a character was Black Panther, because they made me care for him before the solo film. Which doesn't seem to make sense, and who knows why it worked, but it did, and was really clever!
